Description
Most commonly found are honey bees (shown right), bumble bees and masonary bees and within that, there are many different strains which can make identification difficult.
Habitat
Honey bees form the largest colonies and are generally 'domestic', disease having wiped out those in the wild, however they do sometimes swarm and escape their keeper. In this case they may build their nests in houses and become a nuisance.
Threats
The sting from a bee is more of a nuisance than a danger but occasionally it can cause a dangerous reaction. If there is a problem with honey bees, it is best, in the first instance to contact a local beekeeper who will be happy to remove the bees for you. Masonary bees may cause minor damage to old, poorly maintained mortar.
